In close proximity to the already well documented standing stone at Punchestown is this beautiful megalithic stone at Craddockstown West, Co. Kildare. The Punchestown stone is the highest in Ireland  standing 5 metres in height. Its sister stone, the one at Craddockstown, is in my eyes a far more beautiful affair. It stands 4.1 metres in height, tapered from bottom to top and situated on an elevated central section of a crop field. Its base measures 1.25 metres by 80cms in width. Previously I have visited the Punchestown stone and feel it is somewhat spoiled by the wooden fence surrounding it, while this site is left blissfully alone. The Craddockstown Stone is a truly beautiful megalithic monument, leaning westward and dotted with bits of quartz. There is a scar circled around the base with a line of quartz running across it.
