St Patrick’s Church of Ireland set in the interestingly named Carnalway townland was built by the La Touche family in 1891. A smaller 18th century church had stood on the exact spot of the current church prior to its construction but was in a derelict state, however some of its features were retained such as the tower and the spire. The church stands adjacent to the front entrance of the Harristown Demesne which was once owned by the La Touche family, after a fire in the house in the late 1800s the family commissioned James Franklin Fuller to rebuild the house and also to create the fine Hiberno-Romanesque church. One of the stained glass windows in the church was created by Harry Clarke and commemorates Percy and Lady Anette La Touche. As far as I know the church is still in use.

Yes, the church is still in use; when I stay with friends who now live in Harristown we attend Sunday service there. The La Touches of Harristown responsible for the present building were the family whose child Rose was the object of Ruskin’s passionate obsession.

Yes it is, and if you ever have the opportunity to visit the interior of the church you should do so as it is beautifully decorated.
