Newmarket Portal Tomb is the most northerly of the remaining portal tombs in County Kilkenny and is located near the Little Arrigle River. Sadly the capstone is missing so all that remains is the two slab-like portal stones and the door-stone. The tomb is positioned on a low oval mound about 10 metres in diameter and is orientated south-east to north-west. There is a court tomb at nearby Farnoge and the area is home to a number of ringforts which attest to a ongoing settlement in the area from prehistory right up until the early middle ages.
