Old Mellifont Parish Church, Louth, Ireland

Standing on a small hill overlooking Mellifont Abbey are the beautiful ruins of the old parish church. It is believed the L-shaped church was built in the 15th or 16th century in the aftermath of the dissolution of the abbey. The church, though roofless, is in quite a good condition; the belfry remains intact and a beautiful example of the cross-slab gravestone stands within the ruin. There seems to be very little information out there about this little church, its history forgotten in the shadow of Mellifont Abbey’s importance. If anyone can fill me in on some details about this little church it would be very much appreciated.
