Uragh Stone Circle is an exceptionally stunning monument in a breathtaking secluded part of the Beara Peninsula. In my opinion its certainly one of the most captivating stone circles on the island of Ireland. A long approach road leads to the farmyard where the stones are situated, by the way take special care for sheep and cattle who may stray onto or just sit on the road! The circle is on the crest of a small hill against the backdrop of three mountains and Lough Inchiquin. The circle contains five small stones, including two portal stones (one leaning outwards) and a monolithic outlier stone about three metres in height. This stone aligns the circle on the NE-SW axis. The centre of the circle has sadly been dug out at some stage in it its history however this does not affect the overall brilliance of this site. I cannot recommend a visit to Uragh enough, an absolute beauty, I also would suggest taking the stroll up the hill to visit the famine cottage ruin, which adds a truly poignant end to the visit.
