Situated on the east side of Lower Lough Erne in Fermanagh this stone circle was first excavated and rescued from the surrounding upland bog in 1962, at which time a cairn and stone alignment were also uncovered. The stone circle is 13 metres in diameter and is made up of 39 stones with the tallest being 1.8metres in height. It must be said this circle has been extremely liberally reconstructed with 7 stones in the circle bearing the monogram MOF (standing for Ministry of Finance!) which were replaced during the excavation. Stones were also replaced in the 15 metre stone row or alignment which consists of 23 short stones. A small round cairn to the north west of the stone circle measures approximately 4 metres squared. Interestingly there seems to be a few sites in Fermanagh and Tyrone where stone circles are featured adjacent to stone alignments such as in the previously feature Beaghmore in Tyrone (which also had been swallowed by bog until the 1940s). The amount of finds were small in number just pottery and a selection of flints were found. This site may appear overly sanitised or reconstructed however it is a very pleasant circle and alignment well maintained and signposted.
